Summary: Post-KH2. Crossover with Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gundam Wing, and FF7: Advent Children; familiarity with all source media is not necessary. Post-End of Evangelion, anime timeline, but with some elements from the manga. Post-series Gundam Wing, no-movie AU. When Shinji Ikari met the three strange teens with mysterious weapons called Keyblades, he didn’t expect that he would be able to wield one as well, nor did he expect to be taken on a journey to various worlds, stopping the threat of the Heartless and finding the Awakened. For a boy who only wants to be at peace, how will he deal with this strange new set of circumstances? When the threads of the past interweave with the events of the present, what future will he make?
A/N: Many thanks to my two lovely betas, myth and cozzybob. This idea has been rolling around in my head for a very long time. This is the Kingdom Hearts universe told from an outsider’s point of view, so familiarity with the games is not necessary, although there will be spoilers for at least KH1 and KH2. This entire fic was plotted out before BBS or Coded came out in Japan.

Remember the last time I updated this after forgetting about it? And how I said I was going to post fic and never did?

...Yeah, me too. Sorry, guys ._. But I'm posting the backlog now, so that counts for something, right? Even if it's just copy-pasting what I wrote on LJ?


I'm going to be honest. I wrote this to kill the bunny. All I did was add about 2700 words, take out one song, and add another, but now I don't have to go back every time I write an Awakenings-verse scene referencing this fic and spend a couple hours (at least) deciding how Riku or Xehanort or Naminé or Rep or Kairi or other characters' responses should be written. I'm not pimping this to comms since it's not a new fic, but you can go ahead and tell people about the update, and I won't mind.

I sat down to write this poem intending to talk about Mukuro and Chrome and Spade from KHR!, but this ended up being about a future Awakenings fic again. Funny, how the brain works.

I think this is a sequel - as much as anything is - to Obligations and Future. It's partly talking about the same conversation, I guess, but with a slightly different context. I've been thinking about commissioning someone to do a manga page or two for that scene for me.

Instead of posting that unbeta'd post-BBS ficlet I had on LJ here, I decided to write a sequel, and then send both of them to my beta while batting my eyelashes (hopefully convincingly :P), since she's done with BBS now and can look at more of my writing. As for timelines, they branch off from the Awakenings verse after Sometimes.

It looks kind of like this:

Timeline 2 (more canonish, but with the OTYay, like it should be): about a week or so ---> Find ---> about another week ---> probably during this week, re:coded (have only been spoiled for the secret ending, not coded or re:coded) ---> Coriolis Effect ---> a few minutes ---> ending scene of KH2 w/letter ---> KH3D? KH3?

I'm writing Awakenings for NaNoWriMo. The Shinji muse is thrilled, lol.
